Overconfidence?

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

There seems to be an almost unanimous feeling that the Phillies are going to win this series, but the more I look at the matchup, the less I like it. Game 2 is looking really ugly for the Phils with a Sabathia versus Myers matchup. Maybe the good Myers is going to show up, but even with that I’m not sure that’s going to be enough. Tomorrow’s game 1 is no gimme either. Gallardo is young and not well known, but he’s a damn good pitcher. The one thing going for the Phillies is that he’s unlikely to go deep into the game since this is only his second start back. If they can work the count and lot and get into the bullpen early their odds improve dramatically. Still I could easily see this being yet another 2-1 loss for Hamels. If that happens and Sabathia pitches as expected in game 2, suddenly it looks very ugly, very fast.

Hopefully someone will remind Hamels not to wear long sleeves tomorrow…

Schedule guessing.
