Oh yeah, there were games today.
Now that they’ve thrown in the towel and started trading away players, the Phils are suddenly playing like they hoped they would at the start of the year. Go figure.
Randy Wolf has been another favorite of mine over the years and so it was good to have him back out on the mound. In particular I was really happy to hear that the ridiculous slow curve that he has is still around. That’s just plain fun to watch. The outing was not great overall, but I wasn’t too surprised. Pitchers coming back from Tommy John surgery usually take a few months to really get their control back. Unfortunately that may mean he starts to get his form back right when he leaves via free agency, but so it goes.
As for Utley and Howard, really not much to say other than sit back and enjoy the show. Right now one of the Baseball Prospectus metrics has Utley as the second best hitter in the National League (behind Pujols of course) and it’s hard to argue with that.
