Wrong on the first count. How about the second?

Monday, October 31st, 2005

I said last week that I didn’t see Theo Epstein leaving Boston. He just did. I also said I thought that even if he did leave, I couldn’t see him taking the Phillies job. Boy would I love to be proven wrong again. He has the credentials to keep the WIP talkers happy (if taking the Red Sox to the World Series title isn’t enough for them, nothing is) but has the skills needed to work simultaneously to win now as well as to build for the future. The Red Sox farm system is much better now than it was three years ago, although admittedly that’s not saying a whole lot.

However I’m not backing off from my feelings that he wouldn’t take the job even if the Phillies offered it. There is too much of an entrenched good old boy network in place and I suspect one look at Dallas Green and company would be enough to keep him away. Still it might be nice for the Phillies to inquire and for him to tell them so. Might wake them up. Or not, but we can dream.

Finally some movement.
